Lawton Benna wins NAIA national title

Perfection was the perfect way to cap Lawton Benna’s sophomore year at Grand View University.

Benna captured the NAIA wrestling national championship by winning all 25 matches, punctuated by a 3-2 decision over Rhodes Bell of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in the 174-pound title match.

The perfect season avenged a second-place showing during Benna’s freshman season.

Benna is a graduate of Wentzville Holt.

Benna was one of five Grand View wrestlers to capture indivdiual titles. The squad rewrote the record book by winning its sixth cnoseutive team title and set a new scoring record of 234.5 points. The Vikings were the first team in NAIA westling history to win that many titles in a row.
