Asleep in Jesus Doris Lee Hampton, 81, of Eldon, formerly of St. Louis, passed away on December 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. She was born October 3, 1938 in St. Louis, MO to the late Milford D. and Elenor D. Hughes (Hoch) of St. Louis, MO. She was the beloved wife of the late Larry D. Hampton. She is survived by her daughter, Laura (Dennis) Beckmann of Wentzville, MO; two sons, Gregory (Kimberly) Hampton of Blue Springs, MO, Steven (Nicole) Hampton of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren, Kristi, Brett, Garrett, Samuel, Gabriel, Daniel, Zachary, Bryce, Danica; many cousins and friends; and her pets Hannah, Arnie, and Lulu. She is preceded in death by her father, Milford D. Hughes, mother, Elenor D. Hughes (Hoch), sister, Judith Ann Norris.
Doris volunteered for many organizations including Lake Regional Hospital, Dogwood Animal Shelter, and monthly spaghetti dinners at the Senior Activity Center at the lake. In her younger years her primary role was wife and mother, later working for the State of Missouri and the local school district. She was a member of the Lake Ozark Jazz Society, and enjoyed jazz concerts, attending church, and was a huge advocate for animals. She loved making memories at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends, dancing, and just having fun. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service was held December 30 at Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville, with interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
