This past weekend, summer officially arrived in Wentzville – with the opening of the pools! Summer wouldn’t be complete without some pool time, a Rod Run event, or Wentzville’s annual July 4th Parade and Liberty Fest.

Did you know that Rotary Park and Heartland Park both offer fishing? With the support of Friends of the Wentzville Parks, the Wentzville Parks and Recreation Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation have teamed up to offer free fishing pole rentals! Just stop by Progress Park (968 Meyer Rd.) to pick up your poles. Fishing poles can be rented* Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find park locations at

Beginning June 1, pools at both Splash Station Aquatic Center and Progress Park will be open daily through Aug. 12, except in cases of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. After Aug. 12, Splash Station will be open on Saturdays (closed Sundays) and Progress Park Pool will be open on Sundays (closed Saturdays) through Sept. 1. On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, Splash Station will be open for an end-of-summer Pool Party including a cannonball contest, belly-flop contest and more! Splash Station Aquatic Center features two diving boards, a lazy river, a zero-entry pool, a slide and more. Progress Park Pool features a baby pool, a drop slide, lap lanes and a spiraling water slide.

Be sure to stop by the Rod Run for a unique car-cruise experience. The Rod Run will be held this summer on June 7 and Aug. 2 from 6-9 p.m. each evening. This City-sponsored event benefits the D.A.R.E. program and is hosted by Harris Automotive. With a $10 donation, car enthusiasts can cruise down Pearce Boulevard. Registration takes place right before the event near Pearce Hall (317 W. Pearce Blvd.). Grab a lawn chair, and come out and enjoy the fun! Please note: During the Rod Run events, Pearce Boulevard will be closed between Pearce Hall and Luetkenhaus Boulevard.

Finally, don’t miss Wentzville’s Liberty Fest, which will be held this year on Thursday, July 4. The day-long celebration kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m. that will head east down Pearce Boulevard from Campus Drive.

Everyone is invited to participate in the parade by making/designing a float. This year’s theme is, "America the Beautiful." Floats will be judged for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, along with Mayor’s Choice and Best Musical Entry for 1st and 2nd place. Float registration required (fee may apply); to register, please call (636) 332-9236.

After the parade, join us at Progress Park for FREE activities all day and night! From noon to 5 p.m. we'll have free swim at Progress Park Pool ONLY. Then, from 5 to 8:45 p.m. you can enjoy inflatables, ultimate bungee, a LED rock climbing wall, bubble soccer, kids’ crafts and more!
