My first topic is to invite everyone to our Lake Saint Louis Police Department’s Open House next Saturday - Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. up at City Hall - inside and outside. Police, Fire, and EMS will be there. Bike helmet fittings, car seat checks, station tours, Mo-Chip Child Identification Program, free food and drinks, and much more will be offered (many photo ops!). Please come out and meet your local policemen and policewomen - they love to see the residents.  I also plan to be there - it was so much fun for everyone when we held this two years ago.

Construction Notes - Please watch for construction that is starting with the next phase of the Lake St. Louis Blvd. reconstruction from the “old” firehouse to Pleasant Meadow Drive.  Why are the sidewalks being redone also? Because there was some upkeep work to be done to them there are new ADA rules for sidewalks since these were laid and we must conform to those rules to do any work to them.

This project is both federal and County Road Board funded, which saves money for the city’s share. Also the questions come up “Why no sidewalks, curb and gutters like the first phase starting by City Hall?” Our next two phases to the spillway bridge have numerous homes backing up to the boulevard. To construct curbs and sidewalks would require extensive right of way easements through these backyards, and for residents opposed, condemnations would need to be done, all resulting in many more dollars for the project as well as time delays. With the time delays, the outside grants wouldn’t be available (construction has to occur within a certain period of time), as well as the city’s share of the project would hav e been several million more - using every dollar of street funding for 4-5 years. It didn’t make fiscal sense to do this, and as many of you know from other residential locations in town where we polled affected homeowners on sidewalks - not in my front/back yard - so obtaining easements would have been costly and very time consuming.

Although not a city project, PWSD #2 work is going on along Lake St. Louis Blvd. just beyond our construction to lay new and larger pipe to accommodate growth and demand.

The city is attempting to pass along on our Facebook page MODOT construction near our City occurring along I-70, I-64, 364, and Route N when they alert us. Please note this can change at the last minute due to weather and other issues where the City may not receive the information in time to pass on. MODOT has information on their website to sign up for local alerts via email.
