Sitting is the new smoking

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a balanced physical activity program includes both aerobic and strength training exercise.

Aerobic activity, which includes walking, running, cycling and rowing, keeps the heart healthy while strength training aids in increasing lean muscle mass, which helps the body burn more calories at rest.

Strength training exercise can be accomplished using a blend of body weight, free weights, or medicine balls. Research shows overall physical and mental health and function improve when participating in a blended fitness program catered to the individual person.

At Orangetheory Fitness (OTF), our workouts are specifically designed to keep members safe and challenge each member regardless of age, gender, or fitness level. Each exercise performed at OTF has been approved by members of our Medical Advisory Board, and each workout is designed by a team of highly educated people to keep all members safe and protect from either over- or under-training.

Remember, sitting is the new smoking and those who are physically active tend to reduce risk factors (such as high blood pressure) and live healthier, longer lives.
