Last night the Saint Charles City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing the conditional use permit application for a trash transfer station at the intersection of Friedens Road and South River Road (Arena Parkway) in Unincorporated Saint Charles County, Missouri.
The proposed site, while not in the City of Saint Charles, is surrounded by City residents and businesses.
“We feel this is not in the best interest of the City or our residents in the area,” said Mayor Sally Faith. “The negative impacts that would result from this station being built and operated in this location far outweigh any benefits that have been presented. We stand with our residents who are opposed to this moving forward, and I am happy the City Council voiced their official opposition last night.”
Mayor Faith, Ward 3 Councilman Vince Ratchford and City staff spoke in opposition of the transfer station at the St. Charles County Council meeting held on Monday, December 4 when public comment was allowed prior to the first reading of the permit.
“I have to support what is best for the City and the residents of my Ward,” said Ratchford. “And this proposal is not taking into account the residents, businesses and visitors to the area. This is not an appropriate use of this site.”
The issue could be voted on at the final County Council meeting of 2017 on December 18. If it is not ready to be voted on then it will happen next year.
